Building the Detector

I have been a long-time watcher of Blitzortung.org.  Earliest I can remember going to that site was in the summer of 2003 when I was living in Germany.  It was only recently that I learned they had opened a network in the US.  I had to get in on it.

BIG thanks to Gerry at USATOA, the contributors on his board and the contributors on the Weather Watch forum (in particular, Miraculon).  Without them, I wouldn't have had the "a HA!" moments to figure this out.

My goal of sharing my build experiences is to help other people and remove some of the barriers for others to join the network.

I started the journey in early June 2013.  I e-mailed inquiring about the kit and was told that there would be a new kit coming in a few weeks and I should wait until that one is available.  This made PERFECT sense to me, but I wanted to get a jump on the build.  I started researching what I could do now to help myself along while waiting on the new boards to be released.  I spent many hours researching other builds and researching components trying to get everything straight in my head on how my site will evolve.

21 June - present:   Building the GPS antenna module.
